Public Citizen - Don't Get Rolled

Donna Edwards and John Conyers propose highly flawed amendment that avoids personhood issues and would allow PACs, Unions or any "non-profit" organizations to skirt the rules...

‘‘SECTION 1. The sovereign right of the people to govern being essential to a free democracy, Congress and the States may regulate the expenditure of funds for political speech by any corporation, limited liability company, or other corporate entity.
‘‘SECTION 2. Nothing contained in this Article shall be construed to abridge the freedom of the press.’’

Brief Background ...The Supreme Court’s Santa Clara County v. the Southern Pacific Railway decision of 1886 violated the 13th and 14th Amendments and allowed the misconception that corporations have personhood rights. Campaign finance; corporate welfare; unfair taxation; human and environmental rights violations; disproportionate legal protections and legislation; and out and out corruption; theft and crimes and wars of all kinds have resulted from their undue influence on our democratic republic. Corporations must be stopped from committing any further destruction to our world. Please join us in supporting a 28th Amendment to the Constitition eliminating corporate personhood.

Recent Campaign of Merit ... Dr. Riki Ott of recent Exxon Valdez litigation fame, while on DemocracyNow April __, called for the creation and passage of a 28th Amendment: Separation of Corporation and State. (For more info go to: www.ultimatecivics.com ... and signup with... One Million Strong for the Separation of Corporation and State.) Many progressive voices such as Amy Goodman, Robert Reich, and David Korten have joined the call for the elimination of corporate personhood. The Green party has had this issue as a element of it's Party Platform since 2000. Campaigns for ACP resolutions have been initiated in Humbolt County California, the state of Ohio and Pennsylvania townships. Resolutions have been passed in Berkeley, other cities, and a San Francisco effort is underway. And rumor has it that Adbusters Magazine will start a public campaign to revoke the corporate charters of the most destructive corporations.
